We’ve highlighted a variety of entrepreneurs in our blog over the past year. From pie shop owners to airline tycoons, their stories could not be more different. This got us thinking — what does it truly mean to be an entrepreneur? As we’ve noted in the past, entrepreneurs are both born and made. Yet, despite these differences, there are several characteristics that unite us. We’ve highlighted a few of these below:
Passion
Let’s be honest – it’s nearly impossible to find success as an entrepreneur if you’re not passionate about what you do. When money is tight and the workdays are long, passion is the fuel that keeps us going. Though our reasons for starting a business may differ, loving what we do drives us forward.
Creativity
Behind every successful business is someone with a great idea. While these ideas sometimes don’t make sense to others, they become the lifeblood of our mission as entrepreneurs. In order to make positive change, we think outside of the box.
Persistence
Rejection is an inevitable part of the entrepreneurial journey. In the process of building our businesses, we often hear the word “no” many times before a “yes” comes around. As a result, a never-give-up attitude goes hand-in-hand with entrepreneurship. When one door closes, we find another way inside.
Resiliency
As any entrepreneur will tell you, starting a business comes with a lot of unexpected bumps in the road. To combat these changes, resiliency is crucial. At the end of the day, our ability to adapt is our business’ lifeline when the unpredictable occurs.
Possessing a Team Attitude
One of the defining characteristics of entrepreneurs is our ability to work with others. From investors to employees, we rely on other people on a daily basis to keep our businesses running. In order to foster these relationships and drive our companies to success, possessing a team attitude is critical.
