Better to Give Than to Receive

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s better to give than to receive.” But do we really believe it? The holiday season is a time for entrepreneurs like ourselves to give thanks for our many blessings and to give back a portion of what we’ve received. My hope is that while people are writing their wish lists, they are also considering how they can make a difference this holiday season. From conventional to unconventional, here are a few ways you can give back:

Donate to your favorite charity – With the new year about to begin, nonprofits and charities are in great need of funds. Many nonprofits have enough volunteers to live out their mission, but could use the money to get the ball rolling. If you don’t have time to volunteer, consider donating money. Throughout 2014, Far West Capital has raised more than $150,000 for our Far Reaching campaign benefiting Grameen America. We’re so honored to have raised this money to help women entrepreneurs throughout the city of Austin. Remember, even a small donation goes a long way.

Give to the homeless – Oftentimes, the homeless do not have families to spend the holidays with. They are longing for someone to show them a little compassion, so give them a warm coat, cook them a hot meal or buy them a gift card to a nearby restaurant. Seeing them smile will put a feeling in your heart that opening gifts simply cannot accomplish.

Help out your neighbor –If you have a neighbor or friend that is struggling to give their families a special Christmas, consider helping them out with gifts or inviting them to your holiday dinner. Your kindness will impact them more than you know.

At Far West Capital, we believe in the power of unleashing our giving potential. Why? Because giving back is what really makes us happy and keeps us moving.

How are you giving back this holiday season?
