The Power of a Business Name

When starting a business, entrepreneurs are faced with a huge task: choosing a lasting and attractive business name. What sounds good? What will people remember? What hasn’t been used? These are only a few of the questions that one should think about when trying to choose a name. Picking a business name can seem like a daunting task, which is why we’ve created a few tips that will make the process less intimidating and easier.

  1. Make it Brief – Long names make it difficult for your business to be remembered. Think about the speed that you drive past a sign or surf the web. Customers need to be able to read your business name in a split second. Companies that choose short names are some of the most successful. In fact, businesses with shorter names are 50% more likely to grow than those with long ones. So to summarize, keep it short!
  1. Positive Image – Words, fonts, colors and logos are what create positive images. Ensuring your business’ name is easy to pronounce and makes sense is extremely important. If a person can’t make sense of your business name, why would they want to be a customer?
  1. Visual Appeal – Don’t think it’s time to start slacking once you’ve chosen a name for your business. You want your company logo and secondary graphics to be visually appealing as well. Bring in a designer on this one if you have to. While it might be expensive, trust us. Your money is well spent when you make this move!
  1. Be Unique – This is by far one of the most important tips I could give you. Avoid using a name that is already being used by another company. Using another company’s name can cause confusion and bring about unwanted legal issues. It may take time, but you will come up with a unique name when the time is right!
