Slow Down and Appreciate Life

I may not live in a fast-paced city like NYC, but life still moves too fast sometimes. It happens to all of us and is a common obstacle with entrepreneurs. Since our to-do list is never-ending, we work fast, eat fast, fly from meeting to meeting and try to be as productive and effective as possible. Sometimes we get stuck in that mindset and we lose appreciation for the things and people around us. We walk into a networking event thinking about collecting business cards and forget to have genuine conversations as we network. We forget to appreciate doing what we love as an entrepreneur. Not only does it affect our actions but we find ourselves less satisfied and reflective. Does this sound like you?

How do you remedy this? Here are a few pointers.

1. Meditate

Take a few minutes each day to pull yourself away from the busyness and re-focus. Think about what you’re thankful for and be reflective.

2. Enjoy a meal

Pick one meal a day or several times a week where you take the time to sit down and enjoy it. Truly enjoying the company you’re with is a plus.

3. Make time for hobbies

Catch up on your favorite TV show, exercise, or pick up a new book. Find an activity where you can relax and take your mind off of work.

4. Make time for people

Show your family and friends your appreciation by spending quality time with them.

What do you do to slow down and appreciate life?

I swim! I swim daily a minimum of 2 miles a day. I was able to participate in the National Masters Long Course Swim Meet in Omaha, Nebraska this month in the same pool as the Olympic Trials (the fastest pool in the world). What an experience. I came in 8th in my 200 butterfly in my age group. And this past Saturday, I challenged myself to a 10K swim, however it did take me 3 1/2 hours to complete it, but I FINISHED!!!!!
